monday rundown

so teh pollsters took it easy on the lsu men's bball team, dropping them only a couple of spots in the polls after they were wichita st-own3d on saturday afternoon at teh pmac. sucks to see that there is still no legit three-point shooter on this team. man, are we going to miss darrel mitchell this year or what.

mike shula is gone. i mean yea, you kinda sensed this was coming, but..... things are only going to get better at 'bama. prothro likely will be back next year, john parker jingelheimerschmidt wilson will be a year older, jimmy johns will be the featured back, the young defense(which was pretty damn good this year) will be a lot better and a year older. this will be a very attractive job, if you ask me. i think shula deserved at least one more go, but he definitely needed to make some massive changes on the offensive staff. however, he wont get to make those changes because he's gone. joe kines is the interim coach and will likely stay on as defensive coordinator under the new coach.we'll see what happens. i DOUBT nick saban will take this job.

two possible destinations for LSU defensive coordinator bo pelini are now occupied. pelini reportedly interviewed at michigan state and was supposedly on iowa state's shortlist. however the spartans have chose cincinatti coach mark dantonio and iowa state has named texas defensive coordinator gene chizik as its new coach. hopefully this means pelini sticks around baton rouge for another year. as far as jimbo fisher is concerned, we've all heard the rumors of him going to florida state to become offensive coordinator and possibly head coach down the road, but now we're hearing that florida state will go after valdosta state coach chris hatcher. hatcher and bobby bowden are long-time friends(valdosta is just up the road from tallahasbeen) man, if pelini, fisher, jamarcus russell, glenn dorsey, etc. etc. return next season, the stars will just about be aligned for a special, special season in football for lsu.

some other rumor mill grumblings- greg schiano(obviously) barry alvarez(wtf?) and the wildcat wildcard contender, houston nutt!!(LOL. just L-O- friggin L.)are all on miami's wishlist.

other notable coaching news

dirk "mark summers" koetter has been fired at arizona state.

chuck "come on, either make fun of my pink glasses or my man-boobs, not both!" amato has been fired at nc state.

houston "dickey's little brother" nutt has denied miami's interest and said that casey "i cant throw worth a" dick will remain the razorpigs' starting quarterback (though we all know the best qb on that team wears number 5 and plays the same position as labrandon toefield)

urban meyer said that percy harvin, who was stretchered off the field against florida state, will likely play in the sec championship game(just a reminder, we are, like, supposed to be gator fans or something this week)

espn has released their bowl predictions. apparently, mark schlabach DOES watch college football. same cant be said for ivan "lawrence frank" maisel.

the alabama job would be a very attractive one IF they didn't have completely outlandish expectations and the itchiest trigger finger in all of college sports. dude won 10 games last year. i'm pretty hard on coaches who don't perform, but i think a 10-win season buys you a 1-year pass, especially if you're not even below .500

If I were a top tier coach, I wouldn't even consider the bama job, and I think that's exactly what they're going to run into. They can throw names like Saban and Spurrier around all day long, but my guess is they're going to end up with some mid-grade schmoe like Les Miles.

just for clarification's sake, in the preceding comment i don't mean they're going to end up hiring Les Miles... just someone LIKE him.

i'm actually kinda hoping lsu can get rich rod after they run miles off in a few years. his offensive style would work well with the kind of speed lsu can recruit. plus it's just fun to watch.
