//pretending like we've been here all offseason
well, the tigers got the new season off to a fine start with a 45-0 victory over mississippi state. i was impressed by moo state's defense and their offensive line. they did a nice job containing glen dorsey early on, but it was only a matter of time before putt and the other guys up front made the breakthrough. the defense came up with 7 turnovers, including 6 interceptions, including 3 by our boy craig "skeletor" steltz. i might be in a minority, but even withour laron landry and jessie daniels, the team's defensive backfield may actually be better this year. none of those guys replaces the tenacity and intimidation that laron brought to the table, or jessie daniels' leadership on the unit last season, but taylor and steltz seem like they can help chevis and zenon shut down the passing game effectively. of course, henig and missisippi state's offense sucks and we'll find out what they can really do next week and beyond, but you've got to be impressed with the defensive unit as a whole. there will be more big plays by the linebackers. on offense, we got off to a slow start, and penalties and other sloppy things you would expect in a season opener killed a couple of early drives, but still, all the people saying "LSU is not the number 2 team in the country" shut the fuck up. do you honestly think the offense is that bad? this was basically an nfl preseason gameplan in terms of offense. no running up the score to get our guys in the heisman race a la a couple of big east teams. i dont want to use the word "vanilla" but it was a simple gameplan offensively. there's a lot of stuff the offense is going to bust out during the year. i mean, keiland williams had 7 carries last night. virginia tech and the others will see way more keiland williams than was shown last night. i liked how matt flynn and early were patient last night after the slow start. early finished with something like 8 catches and he and flynn hooked up for a pretty touchdown. terence tolliver showed us that he is going to be fun to watch. chris mitchell, lafell(nice hit!) and the receivers looked good, considering there is so much youth behind early. we even got to see richard murphy and trindon carry the ball. jacob hester played very well and you got to l ove his versatility. the right side of the offensive line needs some work. i dotn think stewart played as bad as people think, he just had a couple of penalties that really rubbed it in. i saw some good things from hitt as well. peter dyakowski had a rough start to last season but by the middle of the year he started to come into his own, i just hope the offensive line can improve each week as a unit as the games get harder, especially with virginia tech next up on the slate. it only helps to have will arnold back. anyway, yea. we'll be updating as much as we can. remember to click on the blogs on the blog roll for some good reads on other programs such as texas, tennessee, florida and alabama and other great LSU blogs. looking forward to another great season! geaux tigers!
ps- i swear i wrote this.
